The Kosminen gallery
was located on Pursimiehenkatu 13, 00150 Helsinki
and was open for roughly three years, from April 2019 until February 2022
The gallery was strictly non-profit with all proceeds from sales going directly to the artist(s) – this was made possible by funding from the Kone Foundation.
Our main purpose was to provide a space for emerging artists to show their art, with special focus on debut solo exhibitions and on young artists from other countries.
The programme of the gallery was curated by us on the basis of an annual open call. As a collective, we also curated four group exhibitions: our opening exhibition Hatching, the sales exhibitions Kosminen salonki and Kosminen kevätsalonki, and the participatory exhibition Lost and Found.
Before the Covid-19 pandemic we also hosted events such as book releases and open discussions. During our time running the gallery, we were home to two bookshops: the Khaos Publishing shop (2019-2020) and later The Temporary Bookshelf (2021-2022).
The Pursimiehenkatu space was renovated in March 2019, before the gallery's grand opening. Invaluable expertise and help in all matters concerning planning and building was received from our fantastic friends, architect Antti Auvinen and art conservator Pablo Laune.
